Euro Truck Simulator 2: How to Enable Adaptive Cruise Control and Emergency Brake

This guide will help you with everything you need to know about SCS softwares new feature! – Adaptive cruise control and emergency braking

Starting

What is new?

With the release of the public beta 1.44, SCS software also added the use of adaptive cruise control and emergency braking

Adaptive cruise control

Just like in real life, the adaptive cruise control works as following:

You set your speed via cruise control. The truck will pick up the speed of the truck/car infront of you and will brake if needed to keep a safe distance between you and the person infront of you. If the person infront of you accelerates, you will also automatically accelerate.

So how do you enable it in game?

Because it is an feature which isn’t fully finished by now its relatively hard to access this feature. First you need to have to enable the center console (I won’t explain how to set this one up. Please look another tutorial for that up).

After that you start the game and load your profile.

  1. Open now your console via the button ” ^ ” which is located on the upper left corner of your keyboard.
  2. Type in the console ” g_acc 1 “
  3. * The number indicates the distance in meters which the truck should keep between the truck/car infront of you and yourself. You can type any number from 1-100 (I recommend 30)

Emergency braking

Just like in real life, the emergency breaks work as following:

The truck monitores the distance between you and the other person infront of you. If the distances is too close the truck will immediatly apply full brakes and hazard lights. If this is a false alarm, you as the driver can still apply gas to accelerat and abort the heavy braking.

  2. Type in the console ” g_emergency_brake 1 “
  3. * The number indicates wether the feature is turned off ( 0 ) or turned on ( 1 )

Known bugs

The features are all not fully implemented by SCS Software, therefore errors may occure!

  • Phantom braking – When emergency brakes are enabled the truck will sometimes brake even when nothing is in its way
  • Too late braking – Sometimes the truck starts to brake to late causing an accident
  • No braking at all – Sometimes the truck wont see anyhting in its path and wont brake at all for traffic
  • No stopping for decals – The truck doesn’t see any obstacles except traffic, so theres no braking for light poles or boundaries!

Thanks to denis2004db for his great guide, all credit to his effort. you can also read the original guide from Steam Community. enjoy the game.
