Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach: How to Enable HDR Support

Okay, so recently I found there’s a way of enabling HDR in Security Breach through editing some config files. (Surprising this isn’t an option which can be configured in-game!!) So here’s basically what I did.

Firstly (and obviously), make sure you have a HDR capable display before you follow this.

Navigating to The Config Folder

* Navigate to the following folder – “C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\AppData\Local\fnaf9\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor”

Editing the “Engine.ini” File

* Open the file named “Engine.ini” with Notepad (You might want to create a backup of this file just in case you break anything)
– Add the following to the bottom of the file

[SystemSettings]
r.AllowHDR=1
r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1
r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=5
r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=2

Editing the “GameUserSettings.ini” File

* Next, open the “GameUserSettings.ini” file with Notepad (Again, keep a backup of this file)
– Find the entry named “bUseHDRDisplayOutput
– If this does not exist, add “bUseHDRDisplayOutput=True” to the bottom of the file, or set this to “True” if it’s set to false

Make sure to save both .ini files!

Adjusting the Gamma

* Next, launch Security Breach. You might need to max-out the gamma slider in the settings if the colours seem off. If this does not remedy anything, you might need to alter some of the values you added to the Engine.ini file. (Refer to the links in the following section for more detailed info)

Useful things to note!
Enabling HDR will prevent you from running the game in Windowed Mode, which will also limit the maximum resolution the game can run at to 2560×1440.
