Interstate Drifter 1999: Walkthrough & 100% Achievements

Quick guide on how to get all the achievements with general tips.

General Tips and Roadmap

You will first need to get familiar with the drifting and driving physics of the game. The game itself is very short but you will be replaying it quite a bit to get all the achievements. The key is to get familiar with the tracks/paths since you will be replaying the game a lot.

You will need to unlock rival cars to get achievements and make things easier. There is a secret car called the floater that makes obtaining certain achievements easier. If you want to have more fun and a better challenge try to avoid using it, otherwise if you want an easier route to all the achievements unlock the floater by finishing the game without taking ANY damage. In order to do this, pick the first car (the red Toyota since it’s the slowest) and take your time in finishing the easiest route.

Achievements

Pick up 50 bits
Self-explanatory, you need to pick up 50 bits (green collectibles).

Pick up 100 bits
Self-explanatory, you need to pick up 100 bits (green collectibles). Make sure you take your time and remember that you can turn around and backtrack (go the wrong way) in case you need to collect more bits. Ensure that you don’t lose your car to damage since that will reduce 25% of your total bit count when you decide to retry the level (at that point, just quit and restart a new session).

Pick up 150 bits
Self-explanatory, you need to pick up 150 bits (green collectibles). Make sure you take your time and remember that you can turn around and backtrack (go the wrong way) in case you need to collect more bits. Ensure that you don’t lose your car to damage since that will reduce 25% of your total bit count when you decide to retry the level (at that point, just quit and restart a new session).

Reach State A
Finish the game by taking the easiest route and reaching state A (leftmost path in the overview map).

Reach State B
Finish the game by taking the medium route and reaching state B (center path in the overview map).

Reach State C
Finish the game by taking the easiest route and reaching state A (leftmost path in the overview map).

Reached all states
Finish states A, B, and C to get this achievement. This will open the red door in the first level to start participating in races.

Win Rival Race A
When taking the state A route, you will face rival A when you get to the last segment. This will take some practice but just try to keep up with the rival by taking short corners.

Win Rival Race B
When taking the state B route, you will face rival B when you get to the last segment. This can be a challenging race due to the ice conditions but you can use this to your advantage and force your rival out of bounds by bumping into him. Highly recommended that you use at the very least the Alpha Romano car (unlocked by beating Rival Race A) or if you are still having issues unlock the floater (see ‘Without Damage’ achievement description) and use it to take big shortcuts by floating off-course.

Win Rival Race C
When taking the state C route, you will face rival C when you get to the last segment. Highly recommended that you use at the very least the Dikke BMW car (unlocked by beating Rival Race B) or if you are still having issues unlock the floater (see ‘Without Damage’ achievement description) and use it to take big shortcuts by floating off-course.

Hot Grip Challenge
This unlocked naturally for me but I believe you have to grab the Grips item/powerups (gray G icon) and use it in the lava level (right side of the map) to get bits all while avoiding going off track.

Without Damage
This can be challenging but it’s doable. Use the slowest car (red Toyota) and take your time to go through the easiest route (state A) without taking any damage. If you take damage you have to start all over again. Once you get this achievement you will unlock the Floater car which will make getting some achievements easier so consider unlocking this earlier in your playthrough of this game.

Without bits
Perhaps the toughest achievement in the game. You need to finish a state without collecting ANY bits. If you collect one, you have to restart. I strongly suggest you unlock the Floater car and you take things slowly and use the floating capabilities to cut chunks and shortcut your way around via the easiest path (state A). Make sure you time the out-of-bounds floating correctly since the game could reset you and put you back on track next to a bit and therefore you will need to restart all over again.

Traffic Jammer
On the third level of the easy route (state A) as soon as you start your race with Rival A instead of following him and making a left turn keep going straight and ram into the parked vehicles in this section.

Arctic Explorer
This will require you to take the ice (state B) route. As soon as you enter the ice level, as you approach your first turn, turn towards the wall instead of turning towards the road like you normally would. This will take you through a secret tunnel and area, once you get in the secret area make sure you drive over the frozen creatures to get the achievement and then exit using the teleporter in the area (this should unlock another achievement, see below).

Teleport Fun
See ‘Arctic Explorer’ description. This achievement may require you to use all teleporters in the game but the only hard to find one is for the secret arctic explorer area (once I used that teleporter I got the achievement).

Win the Race
In order to get this achievement you need to unlock and go through the red garage door found in the first level of the game (see description for achievement “Reached all states” on how to unlock the red door). Once you go through the red door you will go to the Stadium where you will have to win a three-lap race. I strongly suggest you unlock the Lucifer Diablo (win Rival Race C) or any other secret cars with high speed in order to catch up with the first-place driver. If you are running into damage or energy issues, use the Pit Lane area to replenish energy and get your car repaired.

Find all FLOPS
There are seven flops in the game, they are yellow runes that are typically hidden within each level, including the race Stadium. The two hardest are perhaps in the ice level (will require you to unlock the floater car) since you have to go off-track and follow the blue ice blocks until you reach the flop, and the one found in the Stadium level at the pit lane area.

I found the rest of these by naturally playing the game and thoroughly exploring each level but here are some hints from the discussion section of the game for the flops at each level: after the gap, at the teleports, through the fences, at the round pier, on ice blocks (need the floater), at the end of lava race, in the pit-stop.
