POPGOES Arcade: How to Fix “What Now?” Achievement Bug

It’s possible that the final completionist achievement “What Now?” bugged out and didn’t activate for you. This guide provides a workaround that fixed it for me.

Goes without saying, but this guide is intended for people who have gotten all other achievements in the game. I’m writing this under the assumption that you have 36/37 achievements, only missing the final one.

How it works

The achievements are done via a connection through Steam – if you were playing offline, it’s possible that it didn’t activate for you for that reason. If you were like me, then you were connected to the internet and Steam and it didn’t activate anyway. Either way, before doing this, make sure you are connected to the Internet and Steam’s servers. The achievements might not unlock otherwise.

How this works is, we’re going to enter the Steam console and get rid of one of your achievements that you already have obtained.
Once that achievement is gone, you will simply obtain it again in the game, and hope that the “What Now?” achievement pops up once you get it. To make this easier, I have suggestions as to what achievements you should choose to do it faster.

Goes without saying, but you need the Steam app open to do this.

Using the console

Although I managed to do this while I had the game open, I’d recommend that you have it closed when doing this.

  • Press the Windows key + R to open the run box
  • In the run box, enter the following and hit enter:

steam://open/console

This will open the console on the Steam app in a new tab.
What you’ll need to type next depends on what achievement you want to get rid of.

Here are the two that I recommend trying first:

achievement_clear 1986840 find_plus
You should only do this if your save file is currently on The Dead Forest.
Typing this will remove the “On the Plus Side” achievement, which you can re-unlock by encountering a Corrupted+ enemy in any of the forests.

achievement_clear 1986840 find_charged
You should only do this if your save file is currently on The Machinist.
Typing this will remove the “Future Shock” achievement, which you can re-unlock by encountering a Charged enemy in any of the underground areas found in the forests.

Once you’ve removed one of these achievements, go back to the game and unlock it again, and you should get the “What Now?” achievement. Again, make 100% sure that you’re connected to the Internet and Steam’s servers before trying to get the achievement again.

Although it should work first try, if by any chance you still can’t get the What Now achievement from re-unlocking those, then below are a list of some other easy achievements you could try.

Recommended achievements to redo

SteamDB provides the list of all the API names for each achievement.[steamdb.info]
The ones below are the ones I recommend trying.

achievement_clear 1986840 find_whimps
Clears the Cursed Whispers achievement. Simply talk to the hidden NPC to re-unlock it.

achievement_clear 1986840 find_axe
Clears the I’m Sorry I Axed achievement. Interact with the well roughly 20 times to re-unlock it.

achievement_clear 1986840 escape_five
Clears the Leave Me Alone! achievement. Run away from five enemies to re-unlock it.

achievement_clear 1986840 defeat_dkf
Clears the Dethroned achievement. Worst case scenario, beat Dead King Freddy again to re-unlock this.

achievement_clear 1986840 defeat_machinist
Clears the Scrapped achievement. Worst case scenario, beat Morse the Mole again to re-unlock this.

I hope these work for y’all. Happy achievement hunting.
