The Passenger: Cosmic Horror Guide

A rudimentary guide showing what decisions in the Prologue do, to help people who are just starting off shape their character.

Mr. Munch Approaches

I push away at the last moment with all my might.

  • Overwhelming strength is your best asset.

I let it think I’ve died, then I attack while it feeds.

  • You’re a Trickster.

I dodge and slither away; even this hurt, I’m faster than it is.

  • You possess an almost uncanny speed.

A Planet Named Dirt.

Rash

This whole place is horrid. I’m out of here.

Cautious

This place is a nightmare, but I should wait until I’m sure I can survive leaving the casket.

Responsive

Instead of taking off, I’ll try to make contact with this creature.

Indifferent

Instead of taking off, I’ll make sure this creature feels as miserable as I am feeling.

Naptime

Nonchalant

I won’t heal faster stressing over my lack of energy.

Goal Oriented

Right now the only thing that matters is healing and escaping this place.

Playtime

Magnetic

I try to mimic its grin.

Imposing

I glare. I don’t like it sitting so close to me.

Rash

I hit it when it least expects it.

Cautious

I watch its every move. This is a trap.

Scare the Larvae

Responsive

Scaring larvae is very beneath me.

Indifferent

I’ll raise pandemonium.

In the Naughty Corner

Nonchalant

I told them I didn’t know why I did that to myself.

Goal Oriented

I said I knew why I did it, but I kept the answer vague. They didn’t need to know about my goals.

Magnetic

I acted polite and answered their questions—I even made a couple of them laugh.

Imposing

I stared at them in silence. If they prodded too much, I would cover my casket’s ears and scream.

Was it Murder, or Patricide?

Responsive

I killed Livvy’s dad. It wasn’t my intention, but I did it.

Indifferent & Otherworldly

It’s not a big deal; humans have really short lifespans anyway.

Nonchalant

That wasn’t my plan. Then again, I seldom plan ahead.

Cautious

That happened because I got careless. This isn’t how I do things.

A Worthy Tribute

Rash

Free ice cream!

Cautious

How kind of her, almost too kind…

Popularity with Humans

Magnetic

Yes, I happen to be quite popular.

Imposing

Not really. That’s not my sort of thing.

It’s Always Swimming

Rash

I ran to the bulletin board and picked the first activity my eyes fell on.

Cautious

After some consideration, I chose swimming.

Nonchalant

I didn’t pick anything—the teacher signed me up.

Goal Oriented

There’s no way I’m losing this race.

Calm Down, she just gave you Ice Cream

Nonchalant

Deep breaths. I can’t let setbacks affect me this way.

Goal Oriented

I clench my fists and remind myself the goal is still there, and I’m still moving toward it.

Human Bonding, or Lack Thereof

Rash

I ask what’s on her mind.

Cautious

I don’t like this. Maybe if I keep quiet, she’ll decide to drop it.

Responsive

I’ll keep quiet so she can gather her thoughts.

Indifferent

I hope she isn’t trying to reach out to me. I find all this mushiness tiring.

A Discussion on the Diplomatic Capabilities of Reclusive Hermits

Magnetic

Hermits aren’t the best communicators out there…

Imposing

Talking doesn’t solve all problems.

Recognising Human Inadequacy

Nonchalant

That’s what happens when desires run amok. I prefer to go with the flow to avoid that.

Goal Oriented

The clanspeople didn’t have a backup plan? No wonder these guys fooled them so easily.

Magnetic

The prospect of infinite wishes making everyone go mad with power? Shocker.

Imposing

Those men lacked discipline, someone to crush the quarreling in a moment.

Punch ’em Earlier, or Punch ’em Later

Rash

The best idea is to get in there with a quick attack. That moment of surprise is the difference between winning or losing a battle.

Cautious

The best way to approach a fight is to wait for your moment. Let them get tired fencing the others, then attack.

Analysing a Narrative

Magnetic

“Moral of the story: crystal cauldrons make for terrible kitchen utensils.”

Imposing

“They destroyed everything and then faced their God’s wrath.”

Responsive

“The hermit was killed because of senseless, petty people.”

Indifferent

I shrug. Humans being humans—what’s new?

Brother/Sister/Sibling

Responsive

{Brother/Sister/Sibling}. The word makes me a little uncomfortable, but I smile at her.

Indifferent

{Brother/Sister/Sibling}. If only she knew. I smile at her, enjoying my private joke.
