Ultrakill Movement Techniques (Basic Controls)

This guide explains some of ULTRAKILL’s movement tech (some not explained by the game itself). Some of the listed movement is usually used in speedruns, and some movement may be nerfed or removed entirely in the future.

Movement Tech May Change In Future Updates!

Disclaimer: I am probably not original! There are plenty of other people who know about these movement techs and are probably going to do a better job of explaining them then I do! This guide just serves a purpose of letting you know that there is unique movement in this game, and tells you how to do it. If you would like to know more about the movement, you should probably go to another guide or video after reading this guide.

WARNING: This guide contains small level spoilers near the end! Nothing to bad, but just to be safe.

Basic Movement

This section covers basic movement that makes up the base of all ULTRAKILL movement.

W A S D – walking/running around

Space Bar – Jumping

Space Bar while pressing up against wall – Wall Jump (Can only be used 3 times before wall sliding)

Left Shift – Dash (uses 1 stamina bar, grants invincibility)

Left Ctrl in air – Slam (uses 2 stamina bars, launches enemies)

Left Ctrl on ground – Sliding (lowers profile, grants no invincibility)

Advanced Movement

This section covers more advanced, tricky to learn movement.

Dash Jump – press buttons Left Shift and Spacebar one after the other quickly to propel yourself forward surprisingly fast (grants invincibility, uses 2 stamina bars)

Slam Jump – while in the air, press Left Ctrl to slam all the way down to the ground. When you touch the ground, press Spacebar, and you will be able to jump higher than usual (can be stacked, does not require any stamina bars)

Slam Slide – While in the air, press Left Ctrl to slam all the way down to the ground. The second you touch the ground, instead of jumping, immediately press Left Ctrl to slide quickly. Take note that you do not keep your speed, and will slow down to regular sliding speed (can be jumped out of to preform a Short Slide Jump or a Long Slide Jump {explained later})

Short Slide Jump – While sliding, press Spacebar to jump out of the slide. If done repeatedly, the slide will increase its speed, and can be used for a consistent fast way to travel. Use Dash Jump to propel yourself forward, and then use Short Slide Jump to keep the quick momentum

Hard Movement/Glitch Movement

This section covers the hard/glitchy movement (notice: the devs have not confirmed some of these to be glitches, so some may be intentional. With that in mind, some may be removed in future updates).

Long Slide Jump – While sliding, stop sliding and press Spacebar at the same time (you only have a small window of 1 frame to pull this off, and consumes 1 or 2 stamina bars). If combined with a dash jump, you can gain some ludicrous speed

The next two I consider to be glitches, and basically the BLJ of ULTRAKILL.

Super Slam Jump – While sliding down a wall, press Left Ctrl and then Spacebar so you jump off the wall. If you see the yellow slam particles while falling at a normal speed, then you have done the first part correctly. For the second part, when you touch the ground, immediately press Spacebar. This should send you all the way to any ceiling. The best level to try it on is 3-2: In The Flesh in the first room, where you have to climb up to the door.

Super Slam Slide – While sliding down a wall, press Left Ctrl and then Spacebar so you jump off the wall. If you see the yellow slam particles while falling at a normal speed, then you have done the first part correctly. For the second part, when you touch the ground, immediately press Left Ctrl. This should send you forward (or any where that you’re holding towards) extremely quickly. Combined with a Short/Long Jump Slide, and you will be able to keep this breakneck speed. Best way to practice this is by going to level 3-2: In The Flesh in the room with the moving platforms.
