In spite its rather cartoony aesthetic, the game has some real-world physics that determine jump arcs. Jumping from a moving platform is not the same as jumping from a stationary one. Be aware of your angle and momentum before you leap! Dashing also greatly influences your jump trajectory.

The longer you hold the jump button, the higher and farther you go. In combination with your dash, you can cover some pretty spectacular distances. You also have a huge degree of mid-air control, after leaping. Don’t forget to pull back if you jump too far, or press forward if a ledge is some distance away. Rapidly altering your jump height is especially useful for the timed disappearing platforms.

Swinging your sword mid-jump can alter your momentum. It may not seem like a lot, but it often provides a boost of horizontal movement which can clear some otherwise impossible gaps. If you’re ever in a position to take fall damage, then using the plunge attack will also save you from harm, assuming there’s no death floor.
